Monday Mind-dump

Thanks to everyone for your comments on my back to basics approach to nutrition. I ran 13.1 with a few dried apricots, coconut water and plain water. I am being very careful with regard to the fiber content but managed that part just fine. For longer events, I will have to carry a variety to get in different types of sugar for digestion but I was mostly pleased with my results.

I'm sick of snow in Tennessee and no snow for the winter Olympics.

I've turned into a total wimp - it was ~38 out for my run yesterday with some drizzle. I wore tights, a top, gortex pants, jacket, gloves and a hat. I looked like a throw back weenie from the 80's but if my legs aren't warm, I can't move. I did look like a real winner.

I'm a sucker for the Olympics BUT mostly the objective events. Get into subjective and scoring and I'm out.

Do people (who are not dating) really celebrate Valentine's Day? I don't mean grab a card or a flower while you're already at the grocery store either but really celebrate VDay? I figure I already have a wedding anniversary and save for an extra 'I love you lots,' it's just another day. Oh, I did buy a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting if that counts for anything.

I've been MOSTLY good about ingesting foods that I can: pronounce, recognize and are not engineered to be larger than they would be in nature. EXCEPT for last nite, I'm a sucker for a good pizza. I have no clue what kind of greasy goodness was in that thing but it rocked and NO I'm NOT eating a pizza with no cheese, broccoli and chicken. That, my friend, is NOT pizza.

Workout review - all done, 6000 swim, 100+ bike, 20+ run, +lift. I know how to start a new week too, with my off day. I have to take a day off for recovery and sanity. I think this week will be similar to last. Now, if the ice and snow would just go away. REALLY?!? I live in the 'souf for Pete's sake. This is ridiculous.

How about "Welcome to 2010 Winter Olympics from beautiful Franklin Tennessee. Today the luge will be held 25 miles north in Nashville on West End Avenue. Should prove to be a fast course... for more let's go to our on scene reporter, IronMissy"

I had my first broccoli and chicken pizza slice (not piece) with a whole wheat crust the other day. Then I had to chase it with a real pizza slice otherwise I'm sure my palate would have been ruined for a long time, perhaps forever.

Ready for spring toooooooo. It snowed again today and I hate it.

Suggestion, in the future the Olympic games will be held where snow is and the infrastructure for the discipline already exists and the weather forcast is good. Monday morning it will be anounced where the biathlon will be held 2 days later, and so on. And the room- and transportbooking will be made by the olympic comittee. Hah.

IronMissy, a "total wimp". I'm trying to laugh quietly here so I don't wake up my wife. What are you going to try on for size next? You look like a real winner because you ARE a real winner. Next question please!

We don't do much for Valentines day, particularly not this one, since I was focused on a half marathon. For some of you that's hohum just another run, but for me it's still a big deal.

I kind of object to the whole Hallmark holiday thing anyway. I'd rather surprise my wife with flowers at some random time just because. Or do something for her that she doesn't expect when she doesn't expect it. It's easy to say you love each other, but every day I try to do something to show that I love her. Then every day is Valentines day.

I've never had pizza with broccoli on it, but that's just my lack of adventure. In fact, I'm not sure it can be obtained here. Pizza is one of those perfect foods. Good hot with cold beer, and good cold with warm beer.

We don't do Valentines here. Beer Geek used to buy me cards, but I put an end to all card giving as I find them a waste of money and paper. Usually I get something handmade by the kids, but since they've been out of school for what feels like a year, I didn't get anything this year.

I am SO tired of this weather!

The weather has just been weird this year, eh? No doubt Vancouver would appreciate your snow. It looks like it is supposed to be sunny and above freezing over there again today.

Running in Gore-Tex pants...did the swish, swish drive you nuts? Oh well, if you were comfortable out there then it doesn't matter what you look like.

Ok. In my mind pizza is a total freebie. Eat and enjoy!! YUMMM!!

Big J is still in Louisiana - and has been the past three valentiens days that we've been together. So I went and had dinner with some training partners. FU Valentines Day. That is all I have to say :)

If it makes you feel better - it's been FREEZING down here in the Sunshine state. Blah.

I'm ready for some warmth too! Valentine's Day is every day in my house ;-) hahahaha!

Brrr. I agree - I am done with winter. Nice work getting the workouts done. Only the kids celebrate V day - not really a need at our house for extra crap candy,

send the cold weather here please!!!

I LOVE Zico water! Love it...but I'm intrigued by the dried fruit-I've never thought about that!! hmmmm

And I agree-broccoli and chicken is not a pizza!

Yeah - if I'm gonna eat pizza - it's going to be the real deal - not some pesto or alfredo chicken broccoli crap. On the other hand - we do celebrate Valentine's Day. Not by going to crazy expensive dinners out or anything extravagant. We cook together and talk about international trips we want to take. A family tradition I grew up with and have had fun passing on is that we always get the kids some fun underwear. The boys get wacky boxers and the girl gets neon colored bras. It's a good excuse to get them out-of-the ordinary versions of stuff they gotta have anyway, you know?

As I read your post it is snowing here in Maryland once again... on top of all the snow we have had... will my bike wheels see pavement before April?
I too am trying to only eat those things I can pronounce and recognize, but PIZZA is sacred.

feel free to send your snow and ice to Vancouver! Go Canada Go! thse Olympics are great so far! A little addictive, find myself entirely distracted with them. Oh well! You sound like you are doing awesome on your training! Keep going girl! Cheers

Do I celebrate VD? In a way, I guess. I didn't buy Keith a gift but I did give him a nice card. He gave me a card and a bag of Dove chocolates. I don't need any more rings or necklaces and honestly, what the hell would I buy Keith? We worked out together at the gym and I made him lunch. There ya have it. ;)

Keith said...

Thanks Jo Lynn!

(There, that ought to mess with everybody's heads.)

I tried the apricots on my 8 miler this weekend. I didn't have any problems, but I think I would have if I took more than a couple. I'm glad you had sucess. Definitly need to find alterantives though.

We havn't had any snow up here (knock, knock) but I'm sick of *hearing* about it - so I can only imagine how sick of it y'all actually are. Barf.

Pizza. Anytime. Anywhere. It always fits into my training....actually one of my best 20 milers came after a night of stuffing my face with pizza, so it became my pre-race meal :)

Valentines day is dumb as hell. Everyday is V day at the Barrett house!

Relative warmth and snow-free conditions in Frostburgg, while there is snow in Tennesse is just bizarre. Not that I miss it very much, but still...

Mr. Moose got me a 2-year subscription to "Runner's World" for VDay. And we had a bed picnic, complete with Red Cat and REALLY greasy pizza. Nom nom nom...

Beer's considered unprocessed beverage right? Isn't in an all natural product for the most part?

I'm thinking yes.

Laughing at the cheeseless vegetable "pizza." I'm with you, that is not pizza.

Not a fan of Vday. Glad you're having success with the food experimentation! Sigh... so over the snow here too, as I'm eyeing the weather station talking about another major storm warning coming through :(
